Art Fair Frenzy

South West Florida is the land of art fairs. In the course of a month, there would be three to four large scale art events. I'm not likely to travel any further north than Sarasota to see one, but most of them are within ten to twenty minutes of where we live - as was this Bonita Springs Art Show last weekend. One of my favourite collage artists came from Texas for the show, and I found her subject matter particularly appealing and relevant. Check out more of Deborah's work at DuPont Studio, and have a creative week my lovelies.

Must See Speed Painting

Winter 2014

Nothing like a frosty Saturday in January to remind us that Mother Nature plans to continue her dramatic
antics right into the month of February  - or so say the meteorologists as they prepare the nation for a colder than usual second month of the year. Even Southwest Florida is not immune to the effects of the chill as we enjoy a break with about four days running in the 60's. To honour the cold snap, I thought I would share my favourite photo from the holiday season. Some of my favourite peeps that I miss every day - daughter, Danielle and her handsome boys.

Miami's Indie Art Scene

About 15 minutes from South Beach, and only 10 minutes from the rest of the Design District in Miami, lies the Wynwood Arts District. While the Wynwood Wall of amazing street art defines this region, it is fast becoming the 'it' spot for creatives and courageous entrepreneurs alike. Once a rough neighbourhood of warehouses and low slung shabby buildings, the gentrification of the area is taking a slow and organic turn towards the refurbished, instead of the rebuilt. Gone is the cheese of South Beach wannabe's, and schlocky tourist art. This is where one goes to feel the real energy of an area in transition - the open minds and spirits of each and every shopkeeper are more than enough reward for your time spent drifting in and out of galleries, shops and the Panther Coffee House.

Wish

Is this not the most beautifully curated wrap job ever?? The biggest gift of all is the friend who created this little gem, and so many other others of which I am blessed to be the recipient. Colette Copeland is also the creator of a most delightful blog - A-bird-in-the-hand. Her daily creations and poetic spirit never fail to inspire. I can only aspire to one day put myself at the art table on a regular basis with her fearless and playful approach to experimentation with any and all media. The joy is not only in the making .... it is there for all us. Daily eye candy for the artistic soul in all of us. Namaste dear co-creators.
