Encaustic Update

Over the years, I have probably attended five encaustic workshops - each one of them very different. While the technique may be ancient, the medium has evolved to include a wide array of ready-to-use colours. The pigment is carefully milled in a medium of beeswax and damar resin, thus, no need for turpentine or solvents. I had previously had such limited success with the process, it was going to have to be an impressive show to win me over.....
and that's exactly what happened. I'm a big fan of transfer techniques, and after a second attempt with the Union Jack, I can honestly embrace this bold new world of encaustics, though mastery might be far from reach. The unpredictability of fusing layers, and producing a finished looking piece still leaves me a bit bewildered, but the joy is definitely in the process, and results come quickly.
