Another one bites the dust......

The beginning of a new year is just a few days away, and with it, some incentive, intention and an all round well meaning effort to make a fresh start. It's not like we haven't done our very best to show up each day as the best version of ourselves, it's just that there's always more to learn. I shall elaborate more in the new year on that subject, and simply leave you with my warmest wishes for a healthy 2015. May you find yourself tapped in, turned on, and able to effortlessly manifest all that you can dream of creating. May your world expand beyond your wildest dreams, and may you love and live more deeply than you ever thought possible. If you have just read this, then please know that I believe in you dear friend. Start believing in yourself and the magic will begin to unfold!

Hello Dears,

Are your stockings all hung by the chimney with care?
Today's auspicious numerical sequencing not only informs us of the impending countdown to Christmas, but also of the far off reoccurrence of a comparable lineup of numbers. Enjoy today, and all your tomorrows of preparation for seasonal festivities. May the week's accumulation of snow make it through the warmup of the next five days. There's just nothing like a white Christmas for us hearty Canadians. Warmest wishes dear friends.

Illustration Inspiration

It's been a long time since I have indulged in a blog hop, but today I managed to jump from Pinterest to some truly inspiring blogs. Enjoying the creations of others is one of my very favourite procrastination techniques. With the evening's gently falling snow, and some Christmas themed illustrations, I can agree that "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas." Check out these talented artist's sites and catch the spirit of the season ...... Lizzie MacKay, Boheme Circus, and Love Mae!

Fall 14

Hello lovelies.
It's time I checked in to say hello and share some iPhone shots of my recent walks around our neighbourhood in Toronto. This is by far my favourite time of year, and it isn't just the cooler temperatures and colourful trees. There's something about the earthy smells and the occasional wood burning fireplace that bring me a nostalgic comfort I long for at other times of the year. Today was breezy so the falling leaves were dancing all the way down to the ground. Hallowe'en has a habit of being the defining day between fall bliss and the warning of winter, so wherever you are, get outside and sniff around before you have to suit up with hats, mitts and boots.

Happy Fall Y'all!
And yes, I am a fallen blogger, so if you are here to check in, then bless you very much!!
The arrival of crisp cool air throughout the provinces signals my favourite time of year, and in my case, an awakening of sorts. The process of recovering from auto immune disorders and other health setbacks takes time and an inordinate amount of patience and positivity. Each one of us has our story of healing, but there is no greater elixir than that of nature, fresh air, and  ...... a great glass of wine! So on this, the Thanksgiving Sunday of Canada's celebration, I raise a glass to YOU! For you are a like minded, caring soul who appreciates connecting with others and sharing your heartfelt truths and interests. We are each others teachers, and for that, and so many other wondrous mysteries out there, I am grateful!
Namaste, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

It does the soul good to get out of the city once in a while, and last weekend took us to the border crossing near The Thousand Islands. After years of watching the Nexus card carriers breeze through customs in all the airports, it was time to step up,  do the interview, and enjoy one of the few perks left to facilitate air travel. Next stop, Gananoque! A sleepy town I had only seen from the entry gates during long bike rides from Kingston, Ontario. Gan - as we have always called it, has grown up over the last 20 years, and the combination of waterfront attractions, farmer's market, and perfect lunch destination made it the perfect place to spend a bright fall afternoon. If you go, don't miss the SteelStyle Garage! Fall has officially arrived!

The Final Reunion

Our beloved black haired beauty, Liz, dressed here in black and white, was suddenly taken from us and her adoring family. For everyone left behind, there will forever be questions and much soul searching about the mysterious journey of this, and so many other gifted but tormented souls. Until we have walked in their shoes, we cannot comprehend the darkness of a soul in despair. We must carry on knowing that we may never be able to reconcile our loss, but must dwell only on happier times and memories shared.
Two of my beautiful besties here are of the Baha'i' faith, and I have found great comfort in the teachings and holy writings in the prayer book they gave me..... wherein there is a reference to "Thy handmaiden who hath ascended unto thee ..... robe her in the mantle of Thy grace, bright with ornaments of the celestial Paradise ...... Cause her to dwell in a blissful abode, heal her griefs with the balm of Thy reunion, and, in accordance with Thy will, grant her admission to Thy holy Paradise. Let the angels of Thy loving-kindness descend successively upon her and shelter her beneath Thy blessed Tree." Thanks be to -'Abdu'l-Bahá. In girlfriend speak, may we continue to heap all the love and compassion on her and our memories of happier times, as Liz herself had the ability to incite passion and enthusiasm from everyone in her presence. May her soul rest in peace.

Silent Sunday

Welcome to my mala bead photo shoot whereby the beads and the iPhone came perilously close to never being seen or heard from again. Mala beads are often worn around one's wrist these days, but are typically associated with the practice of meditation, or any contemplative practice  - typically non denominational.
Think about this .... a single thought evokes a feeling. Change the thought, and feelings change.
Yes, it's that simple.
Namaste lovelies.

This is a quick flashback to last weekend's blissful stay in a lakeside paradise. Just posting this photo of our visitors reminds me of the gift and shift it was to simply sit quietly and do the kind of breathing that undoes the grip that life has on us. Labour Day weekend is upon us, so wherever you may be, do your best to let go of your busy brain and life, and simply BE. Be safe, and be kind to one another.
Namaste dears.

Road Trip!

First stop on our way to the cottage .... a roadside source of spring water - fresh, cold and wet!! If you are serious about healing from illness and maximizing wellness, then start researching water! Learn about the chemistry of the water you drink every day, and if you're health is compromised, be sure your intake is adequate and pure. I shall leave it at that, but if you're curious, there is much to consider ... PH, hardness, fluoride and total disolved solids. I don't even know what I don't know, but that will get you started. Cheers dears.

Philosophy Friday

Hello lovelies,

Just a thought to leave you with as your summer winds down, and you enjoy the last days of August ....
"As we deepen our capability to feel, we expand our ability to heal.'

Enso Love

The circle shape symbolizes both enlightenment and the interconnectedness of all life..... and in my own words ..... " a circle is both empty and complete - a metaphor for the dance that is life."

Boating with my Besties

To think I used to be able to go boating and wind surfing every summer day of the week if I wanted ..... alas, that makes my one outing a year very special indeed!

Run or Dye!

During a weekend visit back to Kingston, Ontario, I was introduced to a new concept in road racing called "Run or Dye". Witness the green station - one of many along a route that covered the grounds of Fort Henry. The willingness of  hundreds of participants to be covered in a rainbow of pigments - obviously non-toxic - added to the squeals and cheers that emanated from each paint station.
Another familiar landmark, the Kingston Penitentiary, now vacated, but hauntingly real as the back drop of some sailing races finishing up at the Olympic Harbour - which incidentally is exactly where my 20 years in Kingston began during the sailing olympics in the summer of 1976. I was hired by the Ontario Government to host visiting diplomats attending events in and around the city .... I just made it sound like a real job, but I remember it quite differently, though fondly. Just one of the many fond memories I hold near and dear about all those years living by a lake that plays host to hundreds of events each year..... those were the days!

To my American brothers and sisters, enjoy this great holiday no matter what state you're in!

What's to love about Canada?

All that water
Sea to shining sea
And every lake that lies between.
Rivers run through deep ravines
And cities come with many trees.
There's beaver tails, poutine and curd
And year round hockey so you've heard.
A mayor on crack
How loyal are we
So strong and free
The Great White North
Molecular Gastronomy
We have it all
We share it all
That's how we came to be!

Happy Canada Day Dears!

Precious is a word that seldom comes to mind, except when I think of those I hold close - be they friends, family, and of course, beloved pets. Beyond that, there are works of creativity like this 'precious' quiltie, and so many other delightful creations by my friend, Colette Copeland. Simply click on her name to go directly to her blog and Etsy shop. The frame came from Michael's with the clip attached, so it doesn't get any better than that for showing off this delightfully simple treasure.

Vintage Heaven

Hello Lovelies,

I'm settling in after last week's adventure to North Carolina. After landing in Charlotte, and enjoying a quick tour of the downtown, we made our way to the beautiful hills of Asheville. There is something about the cool dry air of a more mountainous region that soothes the soul and calms the system. Reunions with good friends and some outstanding regional cuisine set the tone for a wonderful mini holiday in an area I had only heard about up until now. To be able to enjoy the comforts of a beautiful home, so well situated, and surrounded by local attractions and beautiful vistas, was indeed the icing on the cake.
As you can see there were visits to local shops filled with perfectly curated vintage goodies, and if you're at all curious about curiosities, click on the links and see for yourself. Visit Asheville's Screen Door, and Honeysuckle Hollow of Hendersonville, NC.
Thanks for visiting Zendoll Workshop as well. Your kind comments are a constant source of joy, and I plan to do my part with a little more consistency, so thanks for the encouragement dear ones.

Funny Sunday

It's also a sunny Sunday here in Toronto,  and we are right in the middle of a long weekend. I'm not sure when we started celebrating the May 2 4 holiday in advance, but here we are and it's only May 18th. We are finally surrounded by foliage and blossoms, but the number of balmy days so far this spring could be counted on one hand. That pleases this 'scarf slut' no end. As you begin to plan your day, and your upcoming weekends for the summer, be sure to include plenty of opportunities for pet appreciation, problem solving, people reunions, humour, helping others, and following your creative ambitions ...... not to mention, finding solutions for world hunger, peace on earth, and a cure for cancer. Namaste friends.

Mommy's Day Monday

Some Mums are just so special, that one day of honour isn't quite enough.  May you all be glowing in the aftermath of what was a Mother's Day well celebrated. The weather here was so perfect on Sunday, it seemed wrong for the day to end.  Alas, today is another story.  For the most part, we have enjoyed a repeat of yesterday's warmth and sun, but as I write, the clouds and rain are rolling in ..... but for the rest of the week? What up with that?

Silent Sunday

Hello my lovelies.  This is not a naughty chair, but a portal into your inner world of thought.  An ancient yogi once said that the human mind is like a cage filled with a thousand chattering monkeys. The true secret to happiness and serenity is to develop the ability to quiet them. One need not be a student of yoga in order to practice the simple skill of linking your mind to the otherwise automatic process of breathing. This alone will quiet both the mind and the system, as will the odd deep breath taken randomly throughout the day. Try putting up a few sticky notes as a prompt to remember to
"B R E A T H E".

New York, New York

From the Lower East Side where we enjoyed 180 degree views from our all glass Hotel on Rivington room, up to Manhattan College in the Bronx, where a dear artist friend opened her show and gave a talk, New York was in full bloom. In between the miles of walking - with meals in different neighbourhoods each night, we managed to get to MOMA where it was the outdoor courtyard that captured our interest.
Alas, Mother Nature has other ideas in store for us this week - at least in this part of Canada. Let's just say there won't be any blue skies or blossoms for at least another 8 days or so. C'est la vie my lovelies.

Two Saints Worth

It seems trite to share images from a recent adventure to NYC, when elsewhere in the world hundreds of thousands gathered to witness history as two former popes received sainthood status in the Vatican. Pope Francis canonized both John XXIII and John Paul II. A blessed day to be sure!
