Pink Thursday

What do you do with old figure drawings from bygone years? Dress them of course.
If you look closely at the line coming straight down from the bow, you will easily recognize a certain part of the anatomy - on to which the dress shape was placed. There are several layers around and over the dress - both of gesso and faux beeswax. The latter is a recipe that includes acrylic medium and drops of other fluid acrylics mixed to achieve a delicate matte finish akin to the natural beeswax used in encaustic paintings.

Summer 2013

This small acrylic transfer and painting was recently finished, only to be put away until my fall visit to In2Art. I'm working on a series of similar works which will then be available at their Oakville, Ontario location. As we approach our first weekend of the summer and anticipated heat wave, a quick look at this will cool you right off - if only for a split second. Cheers dears.

Vintage Sunday

I've mentioned the Distillery  before, but every time I go I marvel at the restoration and repurposing of what was once the country's biggest distillery. The waterfront breezes are a constant source of fresh air - as are the retail establishments. Along with numerous art studios, galleries and dining choices, there are one-of  stores that feature treasures you won't find in any other retail areas in Toronto. Among them,
Blackbird Vintage Finds where I scored this amazing oversized date stamp  and art brush, as well as all the antique bottle labels. Functional finds ....... make my day! Namaste dears.

Finish - it - Friday

The fine art of procrastination has been my friend for as long as I can remember. I celebrate with child like glee the concept that mundane minutiae around one's home can simply be put off until you feel inspired or compelled. Today I experienced a shift of attitude, and by the end of my morning bike ride, my new intention was set. At long last, the muse I call 'impetus' had given me a much needed nudge.
It all started with the collection of notes, mail, business cards and crap that I shuffle around long past its best before date. I then packaged up gifts and correspondance that had been staring at me and begging to be posted.

And finally to the art pieces ....  mostly transfers that needed that last little bit of painting to weave the background into the imagery. I have actually completed four paintings this week, and am now in the hunt for some appropriate framing solutions. With any luck, I will have completed that task by Christmas ......  no pressure as my new work features typical Canadian winter scenes, and we need to celebrate summer my lovelies! Enjoy the weekend.

Sketchbook Sunday

I really wouldn't have known much about the Sketchbook Project if I weren't one of Jill Eudaly's faithful followers. Thanks to her detailed byline with accompanying photos of her book, I knew just what to look for when the mobile library showed up in Toronto recently. I haven't been up to much lately, but I was determined to get down to the Distillery to get to an art gallery and see a show before it closed.  Turns out the entire gallery was closed for a private function by the time I got there, but all was not lost. Just a few feet away, I recognized the well marked trailer from Jill's blog ..... The Sketchbook Project ....had travelled all the way across several states and provinces, and landed right in front of me. I immediately got my library card activated, and set out to see Jill's book in the flesh - which I did! I really could have spent hours and hours at the picnic tables perusing the plethora of sketchbooks, but time was not on my side - though I have included a few i-phone shots just to give you a little taste. I thought of that after I put Jill's book back, and they only allow one loan at a time ..... rules already!
I was so overcome with enthusiasm that I purchased my own booklet so I can participate in the next round. The program has been running for seven years, and is permanently archived at the Brooklyn Art Library.

Nothing like a red bathing suit to bring back memories of a TV show I never even watched ..... but I can't look at this 6x6 canvas without seeing Pamela Anderson sauntering down the beach to hook up with her fellow lifeguards - and of course the   Hoff! You didn't have to watch the series to see copious repeats of the previews each week. Oh well, once I dipped the brush into the pyrrole red, there was no turning back. I share this piece as an omen that summer is really here to stay. Now that we have all had a taste of last week's heat wave, may the rest of your week be filled with summertime activities and the like. Namaste lovelies.
