Hello my lovelies,
As I settle in for a wintery month back here in Ontario, I am surrounded by reminders that the beauty of my favourite holiday is upon us, and all remnants of my favourite season (fall) have been covered up by a blanket of white. The sun however, continues to shine, and the 'to do' list grows by day. My wish for all, is that amidst the hustle and bustle, you are able to treasure your friends, family and special moments made possible by this most festive season of all. If you need a reminder of what it may have been like in years gone by, wander down to Toronto's distillery area, where Christmas past meets the market stalls of today. Namaste and winter wishes!

Happy Thanksgivukkah!

While this is the first recorded collision of both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, it's perhaps a little known fact that it will be 70,000 years before it happens again - or so my sources tell me. Suffice to say, you'll never be able to say Thanksgivukkah again in your lifetime whereby it accurately describes either event. And so my dears, may you all be nestled in celebration - if either occasion is being celebrated where you live, and may your conversations be ignited by one simple thought ...... gratitude.
I am grateful for my dear friend, Nancy Spears who first coined that last line. I liked it so much, I had to use it myself. Namaste friends.

Stillness

The only thing better than meeting this little white Miss, is looking at the photo I took of her. As shopkeeper extraordinaire of The Wind and The Willows in Naples, Florida, she exudes not only an air of royalty, but a peaceful knowing that hers is a privileged life. It's a look I have seen in many a rescued animal, and as well their owners. It's a win win when we get to co exist with our precious pets, be they dog, cat or otherwise. There's a magic stillness and longing in their eyes. It gets me every time. It's easy to see that my month long absence from my beloved pets is really starting to get to me. This too shall pass .......

So are you as fixated on the consumption of kale as the rest of the universe? And how have we survived this many years without it? I have to admit that when I started putting it in my protein blender drinks, it was a huge surprise how good it tasted - notwithstanding the unmistakable green of the drink itself.
If you find that sludge green colour a little off putting, then simply dump your drink into a coloured to-go cup and put a lid on it ... the rest is easy. What's not so easy is getting up to five servings of fruit and vegetables into us each day..... you may just have to give this kale thing a try.

Walk with me

Along the boardwalk this morning, there was a faint remnant of yesterday's cool breeze - as witnessed in the water's ripple. While temperatures plummeted around the nation yesterday, we in Southwest Florida enjoyed the coolest day since last March - a frosty 74 degrees! Much to my chagrin, we have bounced back to the 80's today, and my big opportunity to wear a sweater and scarf was, alas, short lived. Wherever you are this week, take some time to get outside and experience the sights and smells of November 2013. The holiday season will soon surround us at every turn, and there will be no turning back to the glories of autumn. Namaste friends.

Symbolic Rose

Just before my laptop takes a trip south without me, I want to share one of this week's highlights. In celebration of our anniversary, I received this lovely necklace from my husband. The image was cast in reclaimed silver from an authentic 19th century wax seal. The rose is a symbol of passion, beauty and true love.
The greatest gift of the week came in the form of two powerful words given to two beloved individuals in our family. Those words were, of course, "cancer free." This is a diagnosis worth celebrating after the dark days of treatment and healing.  Here's to hope, healing and continued good health dear ones.

Dears

Have a happy weekend dear ones. This one lives in Banff, Alberta. He/she looked at me last week and wondered if I might be from the big city? I nodded and tried not to stare, but it had been a while since the days of my Colorado or Kingston bike rides where a deer sighting was to be expected early in the morning. Today's word?  M A J E S T I C .

Giving Thanks in Canada

If you and yours are on the road this Thanksgiving weekend, enjoy every turning leaf, and toast the love and effort that has gone into your festive feast.
These photos come to you from the prairies. During a recent visit to both Manitoba and Alberta last week, I was completely mesmerized by the beauty of the cloud formations, and the clear, dry air. I couldn't resist the little house on the prairie near Gimli which is near Winnipeg Beach. We bought fresh caught pickerel in the small fish house off to the right of the doll house.
Bon appeitit dear ones, and happy Thansgiving.

Thinking of Ewe

October has come in like a lamb - some of the most stellar days of the season. Transition is in the air, and so is transportation .... we're off to see the wild wild west. There will be both lakeside and mountain side adventures to share. For now my lovelies, I bid ewe adieu.

Monday's Mantra

I used to play the healing music of Deva Primal when I taught my yoga classes years ago, but now I am learning more about the art of chanting mantras from her. I'm not much of a chanter, though I have an appreciation and curiosity about the healing possibilities created by the vibrational frequencies that result from using the voice. It is customary to repeat a mantra 108 times - this auspicious number relates to the number of energy lines in the human body. While I'm not prepared to go this distance with my repetitions, I do love that such an intense focus on a positive word or phrase may invoke a channel of openness that in turn invites a healing opportunity.
For simplicity sake, I like to stick with the mother of all mantras, OM. They say it's like the cosmic 'yes', the universal sound of healing. The classic, OM SHANTI OM, is the mantra that is said to invoke a sense of inner peace and calm. Amen to that and namaste dear ones.

Urban Outfitters

Within walking distance from our home, there's plenty of entertainment on Yonge Street in Toronto. In addition to numerous retail establishments, great restaurants and upteen coffee shops, there's a youthful department store called Urban Outfitters. We managed not only to entertain ourselves, but we did so without spending a penny. How old am I again?

Girls

Girls just wanna have fun! Fall is here and it's time to get out sweaters and pashminas and enjoy the the invigorating feeling of cool air on your skin. A walk in the woods, or in the neighbourhood hasn't felt this good in months. All hail the sights and fragrance of a season in change!

Silent Sunday

If you or someone you know is recovering from illness, surgery or invasive treatments of some kind, take a moment to be mindful of their journey. Send a card, make a call or simply hold them in your thoughts and prayers.

Namaste dear ones.

Thoughtful Thursday

Life's great teachings come to us in many forms. It's been said that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear ..... I couldn't agree more. There's something about being of open heart and open mind that invites answers, learning and wisdom. As Gandhi said, "It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom." That implies that if we continue as seekers, we will constantly evolve and grow. And if we "sit loosely in the saddle of life" as Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote, we will be able to nurture our development as students of life here on earth school.
This small piece will be turned into a post card and be part of my upcoming post card collection - available in my Etsy shop.

Project Postcard

I finally decided to do something with my growing collection of vintage postcards and ephemera......
turn them into functional greetings using Vistaprint.ca. As many of you know, there are daily email deals for anyone who has ever used their printing services. It makes printing your own creations the viable alternative to buying greeting cards at roughly $5.00 a pop. The real trick will be to remember who has received which postcards over the years! Happy Birthday my beloveds!

Hello Lovelies,

If you are a journal keeper, and even if you're not, you can't help but feel a sense of transition as we launch into September. After a tropical long weekend, we in the Toronto region have woken up to a beautiful cool morning tinged with the faint scent of fall. For many, there will be a profound silence in the home following the chaos of recent hours, days and months. May this auspicious shift of seasons usher in a wave of creativity and productivity for all of us. I for one am ready to feel more grounded in purpose.

Throwback Thursday

Yikes! Big hair, bad curtains and vintage family shots!
Throwback Thursday is a new feature on Good Morning America, so I give them all the credit for sending me back into my archives this morning. I've reached an all time low in my art production this summer, but when interruptions come in the form of old friends visiting and family gatherings, it's hardly a sacrifice. The art and jewelry production will have to wait. Cheers dears!

OK

This is what happens when you go into a book store in Japantown, in San Francisco, and come out with a random collection of graphic clips on the CD found at the back of a book. It is simply called Mix Collage - wool, cube, wool! The name of the book store is Kinokuniya. Have a colourful weekend dears!

Lyric Pond

What do you get when you cross a scenic setting near Creemore, Ontario with its passionate residents and a good cause?  You get a memorable night in the country, a fabulous outdoor meal with fine wine, and an incredible lineup of musical talent ......  featuring Blue Rodeo, Jesse Cook and a talented acquaintance who turned out to be an amazing performer too - Tim Magwood. How sweet it was!

Meow

Meet my assistant, Luisa-Ralph. Poor thing has gender issues, and who wouldn't when you get called Ralph from the beginning of time .... right up until you go to the vets to be spayed and not neutered. She's not really my cat but since she has sought refuge here to avoid unwanted attacks from her puppy brother, I felt it was only fair to give her a girly name more suitable for her majesty. She's rather fond of the jewelry making table as you can see here, and when she decides to help me out, it's nearly impossible to find any work space. Typically she spreads herself out and sunbathes right on top of my trays and supplies, rendering me both useless and smitten.

Hidden Meaning

For someone who has not been bitten by the stitching bug, there was something about the random stitching in this felted pillow that really spoke to me. If you're more stitching savvy than I am, maybe you can tell me what it is that you see in the  pattern of grommets and threads. Perhaps it was the fashionable interior design store in Hayes Valley, SF that had me in a trance. Is it supposed to be a formation of stars?

Take a quiet moment to use this animation gift from Go Gratitude as a meditation tool. Think of it as a heart opener - a reminder to open and access greater love energy. Breathe in Love .... exhale Gratitude!

Flea Friday

Finally made it to the Alemeda Flea Market in Oakland, California! This is just a wee smattering of what we found. While travelling, we keep our purchases to a minimum, but nothing takes away from the experience of sniffing around and enjoying the flea culture in a place like Cali. The first Sunday of every month, and the ship loading docks of what was once a naval base were the setting for what was only our third family flea trip. The other two were outside Boston Mass. and in Arcadia, Florida. The first order of business upon returning is to carefully organize the ephemera and photo collections so that the new can be easily found the next time a collage calls for such elements...... or like so often is the case, just left in pouches to be rediscovered when the hunt is on...... it's like taking a trip all over again - the kind where you travel back in time. Enjoy this weekend's outings dear ones.

Tree of Life

Dears,
When was the last time you had an epiphany? Fear not. In the near future, you will have the sense that you are standing under the metaphoric tree of life - somewhere in the world, and receiving a clear message intended to guide and inspire your path.
I'll check back in a week or so to see what magic has come your way.
Namaste.

Country Living

It's always a treat to get out of the city for some refreshing new sights. Such was the case a week ago, when the afternoon was spent up in Alton Mills and Belfountain, near Caledon. The flavour of early Ontario architecture is prominent in both the stone building and the Victorian house. Nothing like an English country garden to make my day!
Enjoy the weekend dears.

Holy Hydrangea

Thanks to all the rain a few weeks ago, my flowers grew so big I had to pick them up off the ground and try to prop them up on the railing. By total coincidence, I started to recognize the new formation as my neighbour's dog, Hector..... the rest was easy!
Woof!

Silent Sunday

This oil painting of the mountains in Colorado is from my personal collection - one of only half a dozen I ever did. As it may be on its way to a new home, I wanted to share the sentiment that returns each time I see it. I can immediately recall the higher energetic vibrations one experiences when hiking alone at an altitude of around 9 or 10 thousand feet above sea level. There are flashes of tapping into what I can only refer to as  source energy. With that there may occasionally be flashes of insight or clarity surrounding issues you may not even be ruminating about in the moment. These experiences, though rare, are gifts that stay with you a lifetime. They serve to inform your practice of mindfulness and the pursuit of inner serenity. Namaste fellow bloggers, creators and dear friends.

Gelli Jollies

As a special birthday treat this week, my good friend Colette Copeland presented me with my very own Gelli.! The best part was the demo -where we both drew and cut out our images, and then proceeded with the mono printing process.
I have been smitten by her numerous successes with this simple method, so this is definitely the gift that keeps on giving ..... as is our friendship!

Hello Etsy

I'm back! I am beginning to restock my Etsy shop.... little by little. I named the piece you see here, The Eternal Buddha. It comes with a vintage chain I have had in the family for years, and is $49.
Today I read a quote in Toronto's Globe and Mail,
"Procrastination is a sweet refreshing Popsicle on a hot summer day." It's no secret that I heartily agree with that sentiment, but I am working on it. When and if I really conquer the P demon, I will be sure to update the quote to read, "Overcoming procrastination is a sweet refreshing Popsicle on a hot summer day." Stay cool dear ones.
