A Day In The Life

A DAY IN THE LIFE

... of a student of life at the Chautauqua Institution. This is how I spent my summer vacation last week. Each day began with my host and study buddy Jane and I riding off to an early morning guitar lesson. Between the mid day art class and afternoon computer class, there were lectures in the amphitheatre, lunch in the coffee shop, and on a good day, an evening boat ride or swim. Our bar-b-que dinners were always outside in the yard or on the porch, and featured some of the freshest fruits and veggies the surrounding farmland had to offer. Chautauqua life definitely puts the 'awe' into the hearts and souls of anyone who sets foot on the campus. It combines the very best of victorian architecture in a lakeside setting that is so far removed from life as you might know it that you somehow feel like you've landed in a parellel universe/ utopian pleasantville. There are enough workshops/lectures/classes and events to satisfy even the most curious and academic of individuals, or, not. It's enough to simply be there, and be present.

Simple Friday

This redefines the cabin concept entirely..... There's something to be said for simplicity when it comes to a getaway. Travel safely if you and yours are off to yours!

Chautauqua

Hello my lovelies. I'm not in Kansas (I mean Canada) any more. This week, we are lakeside in an idyllic community filled with charming victorian homes and non stop lectures, classes, and events too numerous to attend. Tomorrow is the final day for guitar lessons, art class and iPad education. My brain is hurting almost as much as my fingertips. I'll be back on track next week with a thorough update of a day in the life of a Chautauqua student. Cheers dears.

Silent Sunday

Welcome to my little tee pee/tent obsession, and make yourself comfortable.  Enjoy a few deep and mindful breaths of the refreshing country air, and contemplate the words of Meister Eckhart .... "If the only prayer you said in your entire life was 'thank you', that would suffice."
I am grateful beyond words that you have stopped by to sit and say hello. Thank you.

Birthday Love

It's hard to hate birthdays when you wake up to such a cleverly curated arrangement of goodies. My daughter, Danielle is responsible for making last Monday's birthday just as sweet as it could be - like her! Thank you dear friends for your warm wishes and cyber hugs.

Celebrating .....

To help the summer cluster of celebrations, I enlisted the help of a wonderful Etsy shop, A Fete Beckons.  I now have some wonderful generic bunting banners to liven up any of the many birthdays of our close friends and family.
Albeit late, our mini-muse and friend, Lola dropped by the other day to celebrate her 7th birthday. Meanwhile, just about every member of our family will do the same between now and the first week of September. The flowers went off to the Beckerman twins, and my next post will feature my daughter's curation of my special day ....  to be continued. Thanks for dropping in my lovelies.

Zen

If a perfect weekend destination exists, this is what it looks like. Namaste friends. May your weekend bring the peace that this photo brings me each time I see it.

Tuesday from Thailand

My good friend George has returned to Thailand and shares smiles and stories on a regular basis. He is completely smitten by the ease with which these beautiful people smile, and live their lives. You could say it's intoxicating ...  I know G. would agree.
Namaste dear ones.

Bang On!

Please excuse the bad pun, and the topic for that matter, but when physics geeks around the world got all lit up last week about the discovery of a long sought after piece of the particle theory, I got a little curious too.  I will only talk about the "Higgs Boson" this one time, so if it's not your thing, please come back and visit me tomorrow.
I fell down the rabbit hole while reading Saturday's Globe and Mail to see if I could be made to understand what all the fuss was about. I get the part where matter is made up of particles called leptons and quarks, and that quarks make up protons, and protons make up atoms. Enter Peter Higgs, a British dude who figured out a math equation to explain the relationship, which I would prefer to think of as a 'force field'. The excitement has to do with the fact that this field, which they are now calling the Higgs field (boson being the unit), actually interacts with the quarks and leptons and acquires MASS! OK already, but why is it being referred to as the GOD particle and the GOD-damned particle?? Wellllllll, apparently this finding  supports the Big Bang theory, and calls to question the possibility that the universe was created out of nothingness, which in turn challenges the possibility of a God entity and ... and .....
Ok, I'm not touching that one! I have connected the dots and particles to the best of my very limited ability, and will sign off preferring to imagine that the divine entity exists somewhere in that virtual force field with an uncanny ability to morph - albeit virtually - into the being that each of us believes to have a connection with....... or not. (One mustn't end a sentence with a preposition must one.)

Sunday's Seeds of Intention

Today's post is inspired by the words of a Vedic seer, and my garden of hydrangea which is in full bloom:
"My desires are like seeds left in the ground;
they wait for the right season, and then spontaneously manifest."
All is well my friends.

Thinking Thursday

As one who is just as guilty of overthinking as the next person, imagine if you will, what it would be like to discover this white wonder in the middle of a setting that would be your perfect sanctuary. The possibilities boggle the mind ...  could be lakeside, deep in a forest, nestled by a rushing river .... regardless, simply play along for a nano second. What would you want to take with you?  and where would your thoughts take you? Hmm. Have a sweet day my dears.

What They Wore

It's time for some shameless flaunting of beauty and style, as embodied by my daughter Danielle and her good friend, Samantha Beckerman. Sam, of Beckermanbiteplate fame and rose coloured glasses, is an expert - along with twin sister Caillianne, at remembering and describing fashion labels and style details the rest of us simply admire. It is the latter I must fall back on as I realize I have no idea how to describe their looks nor the designers. Suffice to say they are both beauties and cuties I adore. Happy July 4th to my American brothers and sisters!
