Scarf Slut

Before the hot weather arrived this week, we had a couple of beautiful, breezy and dry days. If I owned an old fashioned clothes line, I would have washed all my bedding and hung it outside. Instead, I decided to air out some scarfs that had been tightly packed in plastic for a little too long.  While we await the glass replacement on our outdoor table, the frame doubled as my scarf rack ..... you know I've had a quiet week when I resort to talking about my household chores. Enjoy your Canada Day weekend and July 4th preparations dear ones.

Discovery

I recently uncovered my rather impressive stash of vintage linen and lace doilies and hankies. It's difficult to walk by these heirlooms when you happen to be at a church bazaar, and they are practically paying you to take them. I, of course am always happy to oblige, and outside of offering some of these goodies to my talented and crafty friend, Colette, I am still stumped as to what might come of them, but for now, they are just for admiring I guess.

Tag Tuesday

There is something whimsical and uplifting about this tent image from the Yellow Owl Workshop. As the weeks unfold however, I will be sharing my new found obsession with tents in general ..... from an upcoming Summer Tent  series of collages to a full-on installation at the woodsy end of our property here in Toronto....... I can't seem to stop my instantaneous and gleeful reaction to tents of all shapes and sizes.

Monday's Mantra

JUST DO IT!
A quick shout-out to my former career/obsession/life. I still get it, but I just can't do it.

Expect-(ation)

Thursday's thought of the day has to do with the pursuit of happiness ...... through reduced expectation.
Whatever it takes .....  Wishing you happiness through summer's first heat wave .... and beyond ....

Wednesday Wisdom

"In some way, collecting is a way of life." And for collage artists everywhere, there is dignity, necessity and a heartfelt sense of accomplishment with every treasure we find.

Lessons

This little paper collage evokes memories of the classic parent/child lecture. The kind you may have had to endure on numerous occasions -  the typical reaction to which might have been la la la la la - but not out loud of course! My father always said ..." children should be seen and not heard". Sound familiar to anyone out there?

Vintage Friday

Introducing ...... drumroll ..... my newest babydoll. Just when I thought I was done collecting these vintage lovelies, I had a weak moment whilst wandering through Etsy shops. It's not my fault! Vintage Market Place had listed this irresistibly packaged babe amidst a collection of faded goodies that included items I would have wanted even without the old dolly. Alas, I just had to see what this item was all about .... and I was not disappointed when it arrived. Again I must ask myself .... How old am I ?

Hugs

I have unintentionally managed to post imagery this week that speaks to the family unit, so with father's day approaching, I will continue to share these upcycled mini collages. Many have ended up as greeting cards, and will likely be included in Inspiration Kits that feature gift tags, quotes and other bits bits of nostalgic ephemera and vintage photos. I've decided to revamp the kits to make them more functional .... I'll let you know how that goes .... I have just cracked up my inner critic ... gales of laughter are causing me to smile just ever so slightly.

Big Soeur

This wee deer is a sister to the one I posted just a few days ago. Big soeur however is perched just off the highway between the breathtaking views of Big Sur, California and the hills that surround the old Post Homestead.  While I can only attest to the impeccably fine dining experiences of Post Ranch, I will say that my most memorable accommodation can be found just a bit south off the same highway that connects Carmel, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, in a place called Ventana Inn. Nestled in the same hills exists a nature's paradise where the worlds of tasteful country elegance and design meet food that is farm-to-table fresh and well beyond expectation...... definitely an occasion destination that falls into the 'dream on' category.
May some of your dreams come true this week dears.

Proud Mama

As we enjoy yet another sultry day in the city, I thought I would post a winter scene just to cool off a bit. The photos and the 40 year old letter are all from my own collection, and like the other collages on paper that I have featured lately, this one is on it's way to the big box to join the others until I get super ambitious and reorganize the art cupboard again. Stay cool my lovelies.

Sacre Coeur Sunday

This sacred sight atop the hills of Montmartre, France was photographed by yours truly almost 40 years ago during my first adventure abroad. It pleases me no end to find function for at least one of the many prints that have been so lovingly stored for all these years. I'm not sure where it goes from here, but if the Zendoll Workshop Etsy store get ever gets restocked, here's one little shadow box to get the proverbial ball rolling.
Cheers dears.

Banner Day

It's the simple things like stringing up a bunch of flag cut outs ( I used a hole punch) on some baker's twine and dressing up your table, altar or craft room - just for the fun of it. I had bought one of these at a cute paper store in Nolita, New York along with a few other paper delicacies to feed my addiction. Check Parcel out and you'll see what I mean.

Dears

These deers - those in the vintage post card and the toy I glued down in front are sending their wishes to you from the little gift box I altered. In folklore, deers are associated with a voyage to paradise  and I did not make that up. It's really not so far fetched that these creatures of such sweet spirit should carry a message of fantasy and hope. Here's hoping it's a great day in your world too.

Big Day

What constitutes a 'big day' in your mind?
Notwithstanding the obvious suggestion of momentous events, I like to celebrate the smaller accomplishments in life .... such as finishing something I started.
My 'start and stop' approach to art making gets to me after a while, so with a healthy dose of disgust and self loathing, I recently sat down to complete several small pieces I had begun months ago. Now completed, they can go back into the box where they came from until they are rediscovered or given away.
Wishing you all a big day and a big week too!

Silent Sunday

Treat yourself to the most moving example of interpretive dance and artistry ever created. As a former dance major in York University's Fine Art Program, not on my best day did I see, feel, or dance with so much as a fraction of his heartfelt gift. Namaste to you and to Hampton Williams.

Friends, Fridays and Forevers

This should brighten up your day - even if you're not enduring the much needed torrential downpour that has finally blessed most of Ontario. Have a sunny weekend one and all.
