Happy Hallowe'en

Thank you Graphics Fairy and my mini-muse, Lola. I do believe we have seen the last of the trick or treaters for Hallowe'en 2011. BOO!

Silent Sunday

A thought evokes a feeling. Change the thought, and feelings change.
Yes, it really is that simple.
Cheers, dears.

The Answer Feather

The Answer Feather is a traditional healing tool for those seeking answers. Like stones, some feathers have more appeal than others, so you are to keep your selected feather with you until - in the next day or so, your answer becomes clear. The ritual is completed by releasing the feather back to Mother Earth after thanking it.
I'm a firm believer in thanking the universe for your answers in advance of actually knowing. The optimism that you will know creates a shift and an openness to intuit a clear path for yourself.
Namaste friends.

Let it Snow?

My friends in Colorado are reporting that this week's snow storm will stick to the mountain tops. We know in our hearts that Ontario can't be far behind .... so, with that in mind, here's to embracing the inevitable. This post card and three other designs have just arrived from the printer. Thus, a season of celebration unfolds. ( I can already hear the resounding NNOOOOOO! through cyberspace.)

Vintage Postcard Fair

The obsession grows ...  and this isn't even my most recent haul of new vintage - (no oxymoron intended) images.
On Sunday I learned about a complete subculture of Torontonians who collect vintage post cards, and belong to the 'club'. My expectations weren't high after what I saw in Brimfield where an entire building was devoted to old post cards, but I had no trouble adding to my growing collection. As soon as we get another sunny day and some natural lighting, I will spread the stash out in my photo studio (bathroom), and share the new new. Here's to sunny days ahead.

Tuesday From Thailand

Since our family friend George Mahaffey arrived in Thailand last week, we've been getting an amazing daily photographic diary via his i-phone. I have decided to share some of this on my blog, so we can all live vicariously through George's journey.
This monk stands before an imposing bronze Buddha in a temple complex that's under construction near Lam Luk Ka which is 30 miles northeast of Bangkok.  Namaste one and all.

Monday Madness

Just keeping this image handy as a reminder that the glass is half Full - while I share last week's little credit card fraud story.
Somewhere between my transaction at the Oakville Whole Foods store, and my car in the parking lot, my Visa card was air-lifted out of my wallet and into a few ATM's to the tune of $2K. The most important thing to take away from this story is the interaction in the parking lot with a well dressed European man claiming to need directions in French. As I filed the police report, I learned that they always work in teams, and they practice their distraction techniques until the heist is seamless. Beware the urge to be a good samaritan.
Life isn't always a buddha bowl of cherries, but it can be real. Real real!

Silent Sunday

Peace and purpose....  according to the Dalai Lama, the purpose of our lives is to be happy. It may not always come easily, but it is definitely worth pouring one's energy into the effort it might take on a given day.  Namaste.

Marc Chagall Remembered

The Art Gallery of Ontario invited members to a sneak preview of Marc Chagall and a few other notable abstract post-impressionist painters of the same era. Last Sunday and Monday were devoted to this wonderful opportunity to be reminded of why these masters remain so relevant and popular.
Chagall's celebration of life, passion and whimsy is well documented with his signature inclusion of floating people and animals. His dramatic sense of colour is what I loved when I saw this wonderful exhibition. Try not to miss this one if you live in the Toronto area.

Sneak Preview

The weather has changed. The days have gotten shorter. The countdown to Christmas holidays can't  be far off. As we look ahead, the time to create and print greeting cards is NOW. This is one of four designs that my daughter, Danielle and I have collaborated on. I have finally found a use for our growing  collection of vintage post cards, and my daughter's extensive knowledge of photoshop. Cheers dears.

Talent Tuesday

Italian icon,  Zucchero packed Toronto's Massey Hall last Saturday night. We were among thousands of Italian Canadian fans mesmerized by Zucchero's unique brand of rock, rhythm and blues. His past collaborations include Bono, Iggy Pop, Sting, Miles Davis, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Andrea Bocelli, and Luciano Pavarotti. Please take a moment and click on the  link to enjoy the Youtube video of Bocelli, Pavarotti and Zucchero. It's classic!

The Art of Book Writing

If listening to Alexandra Fuller speak about the four books she has written is any indication, then waste no time in reading her colourful portrayals of growing up in what is now Zimbabwe, Africa. To say she is animated is clearly an understatement. We met Sunday at an author's brunch in Toronto's King Edward Hotel. Thanks to university connections with my stepson Chris, and his sister Jenn, we got some additional glimpses into the 'before she was famous' antics of this beautiful and spirited author and mother of three. You won't be disappointed!

Stop the Insanity

I have yet to see a roll of paper tape or polka dot ribbon I didn't love and have to have. In my own defence, there are more expensive obsessions to have, and indeed I have them. For today however, I will find peace and satisfaction in my growing collection of all of the above. Thank you universe for inventing paper tape!

Native Love

This depiction of a mother and child reunion is a painting I did several years ago, but just recently unearthed. It's among my first collage efforts, but even today, the image speaks to the nurturing nature in all of us. I decided to put this one in my Etsy shop.
Namaste.

Inspiration Kits

So when your birthday rolls around, would you rather receive a store bought card, or a packet of surprise elements that includes quotes, original art and hand made tags that you can use at a later time?  Yes, I thought so. And when it's your turn to send the greetings, would you rather purchase a store bought card or send a greeting that's ...... wait for it ...... priceless? An inspiration kit can be created around any theme at all..... especially when a message of healing or comfort is indicated. The generic kit in any of the themes you see here is just $10. A custom kit can also start at $10. Watch my Etsy store for new kits and mixed media tag sets.... 4 tags - $10.     Cheers dears.

Fresh From Paris

It hardly matters what comes inside packaging that's this fabulous, but as it turns out, the exotic teas my friend Jane brought me back from Paris last week did not disappoint. And according to Jane, neither did the salesman who waited on her, or the Dammann Freres tea store. The story of her romantic transaction has only added to the unique collection of flavours that I am now savouring.
J'aime beaucoup the 'passion de fleurs' et 7 Parfums flavours.

Bon appetit mes amis.

Creative Monday

As I stare at these crayons awaiting the arrival of my Monday afternoon muse, I will simply settle for an infusion of ideas prompted by these bigger-than-life crayons. They come from our favourite twins, Sam and Caillianne Beckerman who got them at the adorable 'Advice from a Caterpillar' store in Toronto.
Have a great week dear friends.... Canadian Thanksgiving is fast approaching.

Silent Sunday

" Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well."    Vincent Van Gogh
