Inspired by Etsy

We just had to try our hand at making these adorable vintage ornaments inspired  by an Etsy shop I frequent - Modern Primitives. They're fast and they're fun - each with their own personality.

Thanks to Katie from Natural and Vintage, I'm taking this adorable shabby chic candelabra home to put in Danielle's booth at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto. She has created a wonderful winter cabin within the venue, so come in from the cold and visit us there.

The Spirit of Winter

Anthropology in Naples,  Florida has captured the spirit of the season in all it's woolly glory. They are featuring the most adorable miniature mitten sets as tree ornaments. From what I hear of the weather up north,  winter has launched its first attack of chilly air. I am preparing to transition from the humid 80's to the chilly 30's. Bring it on Mother Nature!
Blessings to all who are preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving 2011.

The Great Outdoors

Rain or shine -  hot or cold - a world exists outside - to complete what's going on inside.
The sights, sounds, smells and the feel of breathing deeply to soak it all in.
The ritual of stepping outside simply to be there and to be present - is the gift you can give yourself
Today and always.             Namaste friends.

Pocket Babies

Rocky, my yorkie takes his babysitting duties seriously. When my friend, Colette heard about my famous 'pocket baby' dreams, she dreamed up this precious keepsake to add to my dolly collection. Rocky seems to know just how special it is too. And how old am I you ask???

One of a Kind

My efforts to post my daughter, Danielle's e-vite to the upcoming One of a Kind show continue. Witness my most recent technical malfunction. Suffice to say, she is single-handedly producing over 100 gift sized mini collages in addition to some wonderful new large pieces. Please forgive this pixelated poster, and stay tune for the real deal.

Confessions of a Bag Lady

It's true, I have a hard time parting with any bag -  from the humble paper bag right up to the hobo bag. As it turns out, even these delicate tea bags have been recycled. Instead of holding loose tea, they now contain our holiday tags.

Look for these and other paper treats along with Danielle's new holiday collection of collages at Toronto's
One of a Kind Show.

Tuesday from Thailand

A whimsical Buddha from George's journey. George is our close family friend from Colorado. An award winning chef and philosopher funny man, he sends daily missives from his travels through Thailand.

Here's a wee taste of his poetic rhetoric on the road north to Nakon Phanom from Mukdahan:
He talks of temples, bones of Buddha and meals in night markets featuring roast pickled forest pig and sticky rice grilled in banana leaf.  Hmmm. The mind boggles.

Thank you George for your inspiration, and thank you to all who have checked to share in today's post.

Love, peace, and safe travels to all.

Ninnie Reunion

In my tribute to Lynne Whipple and her ninnie peeps last week, I had temporarily lost the image of my other rendition. I've decided to name our stoic dude Stan, and I'm not sure he's looking all that excited to be reunited with his two frumpy step sisters - Bunny and Bertha. Oh happy day!

Saturday, November 12, 2011

Yes, I know that was yesterday's date, but it really didn't impress me much until 11:11 pm. That was pretty cool. The best part is doing it all over again next year. After that, the party's over for several decades, so if you like numbers like I do, you're about to google the significance of 11's.  Cheers dears.

Food Truck Friday

Once a week at the Farmer's Market in Bonita Bay, Florida, the food trucks roll up and set up for business.
The vendor of this pink beast sells 'Cakes and Shakes'.

My first experience with this food truck movement was out in Portland, Oregon, where apparently things really got started. There were close to a hundred such food trucks in a designated parking lot in the downtown core.
There was representation from dozens of ethnicities, and clearly the Tex Mex possibilities were endless.

Hopefully this movement will be embraced as the trend spreads through North America. The city of Toronto has not made it easy- sadly - for the dozens of vendors trying to share their authentic cuisine. It's hard for the rest of us foodies to see the down side to fabulous street food, so hopefully, the passionate will prevail.

Bon Appetit! Tomorrow's market day here in Bonita Springs.... time to sample some good grub!

Paper Passions

As the vintage photo collection grows, so does the pressure to do something with them ...... there's nothing like the instant gratification of printing on card stock and making your own tags with a big old hole punch from the craft store.

This winter collection will be featured in my daughter, Danielle's booth at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto. November 24 - December 4.  Look for Danielle Hession in the program.

Lynne Whipple Love

As a tribute and sampling of Lynne Whipple's wonderful world of Ninnies, I had to try my hand at altering this cabinet card. It's great fun to see the transformation of these otherwise upright and severe looking characters. For the real thing, drop in and visit
Lynnewhipple.wordpress.com.   Cheers dears.

Holy Melanoma!

These days when life gets real, we have the means to share our reality with the universe. We also have the choice to do so .... or not. I was conflicted on this one.
What I did want to share was my good fortune in early detection, quick diagnosis and prompt surgery.... the latter being a huge favor and generous gift on the part of plastic surgeon, Dr. Alexander Golger.  For this and the wisdom of my inner circle of dermatologist gurus, I say thank you! I love you.

I have two thoughts for this Tuesday ....
1. It takes a village.
2. Remember to smell the roses.

Silent Sunday

Today, an insight from the Dalai Lama.
"Happiness is not something ready made.
It comes from your own actions."

Namaste and lovingkindness to all.

Mama always said .....

..... Eat your vegetables! This mini collage on my grandmother's old Betty Crocker page dates back more than 10 years to a time when I had just discovered gold leaf. I found it at the bottom of a portfolio stuck to some other throw away piece from the same era..... the joys of being a pack rat for paper!

Little Rock

This is the little furball I am missing as I enjoy some warmer climes and re-entry into life in Bonita Springs, Florida where a few winter months will be spent in the new year. Mommy will be home soon Rocky. Have a great weekend everyone.

Heaven Sent

If this treasure looks familiar, you are not mistaken. My dear friend, Colette worked some magic on one of the vintage post cards we found recently at the aforementioned fair in Toronto. We both fell in love with this cherub and decided to share it - as we do so many of our creative ideas and techniques.
It's blessing enough to have an art buddy and dear friend, but kindred spirits are definitely heaven sent.

Tuesday from Thailand

This Buddha sits on a high point at the southern tip of Phuket Island near Wat Chalong.
This view from the island's oldest temple includes the southern cape, and a cluster of islands as far as the eye can see over the Andaman Sea.

Thank you George ( my travelling friend), and Namaste all.
