Putting on the Ritz

Welcome to a distant view of the Gulf from the perspective of our lunch at the Ritz Carlton's Vanderbilt Beach bistro, Gumbo Limbo.

This year's dining experiences in the Naples area have been more impressive and memorable than in years gone by, and for good reason. The economic climate of the times dictates that anyone who's serious about riding out the downturn has to up their game. Impeccable service, fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation and creativity in the kitchen and menu like  never before. Here's my list of winners and 'pro shows' who have performed consistently throughout the winter of 2011.

Bravo, Brio, Bricktop, Bonefish Grill, Cirella's,  Evoo, California Pizza Kitchen, Ruth's Chris, A Table Apart,
Blue Sushi. I suspect I will be adding to this list as I recall noteworthy experiences that just aren't on our radar this season. Cheers et bon appetite!

Meet Winston and Oliver

Winston is the whiter one, and while you can't see his eyelash extensions from a distance, just know that he uses them to his full advantage when necessary. These two are NOT just pretty faces! They are the little prince versions of 'Mutt and Jeff". You might wonder at my fascination with the neighbour's dog's play date,
but I'm really just fascinated by well adjusted dogs and the ease with which they enjoy their playmates. Sadly, my beloved yorkie, Rocky needs and wants only his mommy. Such is life.

Life as we have known it down here in south west Florida will soon end. The party's almost over. I'm hoping this long streak of laziness is almost over as well. Alas, I have not been as disciplined as I intended where my creative endeavours are concerned. Too many great friends and fun distractions....  no regrets or complaints about life's blessings getting in the way of focused art production however ... what's  another few days in paradise?

Serenity on Sunday

Today I am drawn to my Grace Cards.  The message on the back of the box states that there is a benevolent force of energy available to guide us. This energy is
'grace'. "When you open yourself to its influence, you'll begin to see the signs, symbols, and messages that are placed in your path to lead you in the right direction."

I treated myself to two cards today:

Surrender:  Surrender is the key that unlocks the door
                   to grace.

Invoke:      Ask for a blessing. There is an endless
supply of Divine support awaiting your

Namaste:   I salute the Divine in You! I heart you!

Pink Friday

Hello my lovelies..... let it be known that includes any men who are lovely enough and curious enough to check in.

This cool machine was a gift for my dearest friend from her beloved son. I love how he really gets who his mother is. With this one gift, he has captured her essence and given her wings to express her zest for living large and in charge. You've gotta have 'zesta' to drive a Vespa! That's what I always say, and Janice has it in spades!

I honour and treasure our friendship, so with that in mind, I wish everyone a wonderful weekend. May you ride into the sunset of your day with happy thoughts and the intention to be kind to each other.

Namaste.  A Sanskrit greeting like 'Aloha' which when translated means that you honour the divine in those you are meeting and greeting. May your hearts be open to all sentient beings.

Crystal Blue Persuasion

The charm on this delicate bracelet was designed with the intention to inspire creativity, memory and imagination with the inclusion of the opalite stone. The other pale blue more mottled stone is amazonite - known for improving concentration while soothing nerves, thus helping us find peace out of the chaos. My favourite swarovski crystals are the double AB ones which, as you can see offer a stunning iridescent reflection.

May all your dreams come true!

Snail Mail

Love it, love it, love it!

What is it about going to the mailbox, and actually finding something fun
inside - just for you!

Yup, I'm a child at heart. I admit it.

This is a collection of goodies received over time from a kindred spirit, Colette. Her creative missives have
reminded me to think less, and do more .......  at least when it comes to making art and being  a good correspondent. There's a wonderful
'feel good' rush when each letter is dropped into a mailbox and on its way.        Namaste.

Inspiration From Others

Above:  My friend and mentor, Colette Copeland

Left:      Holly Hambrick whom I met at an art show in Bonita
              Springs, Florida.

Below:  Lynne Mori of Hollyhock fortune.etsy.com.

Just a minuscule sampling of the plethora of talented peeps who inspire me on a daily basis. Their work is always insightful,  and endearing. Though my daughter, Danielle is missing from this short list of favourites, she knows I'm her biggest fan. Her two week visit south will take her away from her commission work, and will also mark the end of our stay in this paradise of perfect weather. The winter of 2011 is drawing to a close with the promise of spring in the air for those who endured the relentless wrath of Mother Nature this year.

Spirit House

The goddess you see here is sandwiched between two layers of mica as are all the other images that make up the four walls and two sides to the roof top. This project was part of a workshop taken with Nina Bagley of Ornamental fame. That was three or four years ago now, but I continue to feel grounded and comforted each time I plug in the little pin lights to honour the goddess within.    Namaste

"Wisdom begins in wonder"    Soctrates

From the exotic to the most mundane and everyday journey, may you reserve space in your heart for a sense of wonder and hope..... as with those sacred moments at dawn when you witness the sun rising from the east, which, if I were part of some native american morning ritual, would represent the source of all wisdom.

Namaste lovelies.

Dignity and the Dove

I couldn't take my eyes off the sight and sound of these two love birds as I watched the last few streaks of sunset down at Naples Pier. The activity on the beach paled in comparison to the peace and comfort offered by these two perfect creatures.

Doves are plentiful both on our property here in Bonita Bay and in front of our city home in Toronto. Not a sighting goes by for me, that I don't stop in my tracks, take a deep breath and soak in the moment...... present
moment appreciation creates a momentary shift in brain activity and but for a flash, brings a sense of knowing ...... that All Is Well.

Buddha's Message of Love

"Having found what is eternal
 the Buddha does not die
but lives in the hearts of those who seek the way
 and serves as their guide."

The above passage was taken from the book
"Be A Light Unto Yourself".
Discovering and Accepting Who You Are
From the Words of the Buddha.

The upcycled necklace around my Buddha's head was made in the spirit of love and affection. The heart collection that hangs from the sterling circle of Love
came from the estate jewellery of one of the local
vendors at our weekly flea market. Each Saturday morning I make my way to the Promenade in hopes of finding another treasure. May you treasure every precious moment of your day.  Namaste.

    Child's Play

Good day lovelies! Run, don't walk to your craft cupboard or your sticker pouch and start playing right away! Cover the next letter you send in stickers and stamps, and just see if that doesn't create a shift in your mood as it elevates your spirits. There are no studies to support the theory that such child's play releases endorphins - the 'feel-good' hormones, but I'm here to tell you it's the best placebo out there! Go forth and play!    Namaste.
