Oscar Buzz

Us girls were pretty jazzed about a chance to act out our inner diva on the occasion of last evening's 83rd  Annual Academy Awards telecast. Notwithstanding the eccentric stylings of the above cast which includes Jane, Jc, Jim and Mimi, host Anne Hathaway rocked all 7 of her designer dress changes. Or was it eight? As always, goddess Halle Berry nearly stole the show in her etherial nude  number. Wall Street  Journal commented today on the commercial success of such 'comparatively low-budget nominees like "Black Swan" and "True Grit" indicates that adult filmgoers are still paying to see movies.'  I'm impressed by this year's ambitious and varied content with broad appeal to viewers of all ages. My list of must-see movies has grown again to include everything from "Toy Story 3" to "The Kids Are All Right." Time to sign up for Netflix!

Work in Progress

It's probably written somewhere that you never publish unfinished work, but since my Mother is the subject of the above and uncompleted piece, and she is here in south west Florida visiting me, I thought I would share Shirley as she was in her 20's. She's been the subject of many of my favourite collages, and even the tag to the right shows Shirley's sporty side.

If I can play the aging game even half as well as my Mom, I'm going to be a very grateful girl. Her sense of style and verve is evidenced both in these vintage photos and to this very day. Go Shirley, Go!

I love having her here with me, and she so deserves a little respite from the relentless winter of the great white north.

Namaste lovelies.

Espresso Tuesday

As you can see in her bright eyes, Claudine Hellmuth brings joy to everything she does, and everyone she does it with.

Her 3 day Collage Intensive here in Bonita Springs was a perfect example of her ability to gather a group of like-minded creatives to sample some of her now famous collage techniques using the amazing acrylic paints from Ranger that she has had her hand in formulating. Espresso Lady is a tiny tag example of how we expressed ourselves in these small yet forgiving format. I never get tired of tags... the more, the merrier I am.

Namaste lovelies.

What's in the cards?

On this beautiful silent Sunday in Bonita Springs, I spread out two decks of 'oracle' cards. In advance of randomly selecting my cards, I contemplated the busy week that had passed, and the one that was ahead so that I could guide myself to the most appropriate message for the day.

From Cheryl Richardson's Grace Cards, I chose the 'QUIET' card: Turn off the noise. Silence nourishes the body, mind, and spirit.

From Sonia Choquette's Trust Your Vibes set, I drew 'CLEAR THE PATH.'

When I return from my silent retreat, I will tell you all about my three day "Collage Discovery Intensive" with Claudine Hellmuth.

Dani's Valentine Package Arrives!

A daughter just knows what her mother will want for every special occasion.

It's even more fun when all the goodies arrive in a special delivery from from FedEx. While Danielle holds down the fort up north in the land of Brrrr, she dutifully ships all the important mail and occasionally some paper treats for me. Yes, I still get excited about stickers, labels, photos, and any visual treat that will inspire my creativity or get pinned on the inspiration board.

Destiny Girl

Destiny girl is an upcycled, mixed metal, whimsical, wearable 24 inch necklace of sass and eccentricity.

There's a reason I never threw away all the costume jewellery I had collected over the years. I just didn't know what it was until recently. There was a time when a trip to an arty place like Santa Fe would result in a few purchases - usually of something unusual that I thought would help preserve my memories of a wonderful trip. Sometimes I wonder how I ever wore some of the elaborate earrings I bought - and with all that long hair I had. What was I thinking?

Hopefully, if I can keep my jewellery making tools and supplies successfully hidden behind the puddle of drapery at the dining room table, I'll be able to add to this wacky collection of one-of-a-kind necklaces.

In due course I will list them in my Etsy shop, which regrettably has been sadly neglected lately. More on that later my lovelies.   Namaste.

Shore bird wisdom

Nothing like the vision of a shore bird at sunset to take you away from the habit of over-thinking all the live long day. These delightfully innocent creatures appear weightless as they scamper over the cooling sand. Add a couple of deep healing breaths and the soft scent of sultry salt air (alliteration alert) - and you have the makings of a transformative moment with which to end your day.  Namaste.

Love and Other Guides

Love and other four letter words are so much a part of our daily vernacular that their effect on us is either diluted or completely lost in the shuffle of our over scheduled day. February 14th is one week away, and if for no other reason than you wish to celebrate this day as an anniversary of the heart, consider the last time you obeyed your heart. Some call it instinct or 'gut', and as a guide, it has even manifested a voice with a distinct message for those who have been open to guidance at a particular crossroad in  life. If the choice to honour this voice isn't clear at the time, then be patient and resist the temptation to dismiss or deny that answers to some of life's bigger questions appear in this manner. You need only to be open to the possibility that this can happen. HOPE is a the four letter word for another day....

PS.  This little 'love' installation appeared at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto, Canada.

Five Crows for Friday

Alas my guest room is now empty, but for the few who remember it's previous asian influenced decor, these photos are the big 'reveal'. I undertook to do a little makeover to honour the creative spirit in all of us. This required more of a blank canvas, so instead of painting all the walls, I just went to Target and got Rachel Ashwell's shabby chic linens in white. Together with a few beachy pieces of white furniture and some West Elm white gauzy window panels,  our little guest room will be a gallery for creative collages and special one of a kind pieces that are purchased or produced by friends and family. There are already three special assemblages by Holly Hornbrick - a wonderful kindred spirit from the Carolinas. I would offer a link, but she's too busy telling her life story in the form of whimsical and often humorous creations that come in wonderful memory boxes. She has imparted specific details about each of the five pieces I now own. She is tireless in her efforts to keep all these memories alive and in sharing each story she creates a wonderful relationship with everyone she meets.  Namaste.
