One Halo

One Halo deconstructed:
In reverse order .......  the backstory.....one halo.( Even adopted vintage people have a dark side). Found: one brown paper bag painted both sides in gesso. ABC scrap from Danielle's print making class at art school. Paper tape by Tim Holtz and a couple of red circles. ......  et Voila!
P.S.
This piece will be mounted on an 8x6 inch gallery canvas board and end up in Oakville, Ontario at the

My Hallowe'en Muse

It's not really about Hallowe'en here, though Lola makes an adorable good witch. It's about the pure potentiality of our children. Like so many youngsters I know and love, I see in Lola the gift of creative
spirit and the spirit of artistry in all that she says and does. Listen closely to the children in your life. Listen closely to your own inner child. Your 'happy place' is within and all around.   Namaste.

Memory Pouch #2

As much as I love making mini collages and small charm based jewelry, there are times when forcing myself  out of the comfort zone and into bigger works of art and jewelry would seem a good exercise....or at the very least, a test of character. Alas, I'm either very lazy, undisciplined or just a child at heart because with me and in many areas of my life, Less is More!   xoxo

Zen Market Experience

The Brickworks Market is an organic oasis in the middle of metropolis. Each Saturday from 8 am until 1 pm, farmers, artisans, chocolatiers, bakers and organic providers from all walks gather in a location surrounded by nature and history. From the moment you step out of your car, a feeling of calm takes over your being and you feel instantly transported to a place that time forgot.  With the recent restoration of the original brickworks factory and some creative landscaping, a pocket of vintage history has been reclaimed. It's a weekly trip for me but tomorrow I get to share it with my mother and brother. With numerous activities for children, busking musicians, the aroma of fresh coffee, Buddha dogs and crepes, you might just be lucky to get a reflexology session as the icing on the cake. Head south on the Bayview extension... you can't miss it!

Toronto Welcomes the Dalai Lama

When asked about his religious beliefs, the Dalai Lama states simply that his religion is that of 'kindness'. To this he adds, "We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection." His open heart, his open mind and his joyful spirit serve to inspire and incite goodness in the hearts of all who  have chosen to seek a spiritual path or simply observe the good old fashioned golden rule.

Bird Majesty

Once upon a time, I studied the art of lithography and etching, and sure enough some 30 years later, my humble efforts were still kicking around. While colouring in the background and placing a sticker over the offending subject matter isn't much of a save, it would appear that I've become hugely successful at the art of 'saving'. Unlike hoarding, all items are neatly organized behind closed doors, and when they'll come out of the closet, nobody knows for sure. Thanks to Artchix for the cool sticker!

Girls Gone Vintage

Last Saturday was the quintessential fall day for a mothers and daughters outing to Leslieville, Toronto
where, at the Maple Cottage an impressive vintage sale was taking place. From left to right, Mom Raina Beckerman, Samantha, my Danielle beside me, and Sam's twin, Cailianne Beckerman at the other end.
Our next stop was Gadabout where we go regularly to adopt some more vintage people photos. Cheers!

Memory Pouch

Recuerdos de mi vida..... a memory pouch is what happens when you go looking through the vast collection of papers, stickers, rub-offs and tape in search of none of the above. Have a creative day!

Meow!

Meet Princess Ralph. Since you asked...  there was gender confusion... not on her part of course, but as a furry kitten, she was thought to be a he, and so she was called Ralphy. The rest of the story is history. As an indoor cat living in the city of Toronto, she doesn't know how lucky she was to go on a vacation to Prince Edward County and live on a farm for a few days. In or out, she's pretty chill... too cool to purr in fact, so I'm featuring her in honour of Silent Sunday. Blessing to you and yours - all the live long day!

The Zen World of Dogs

This is a typical weekday in Sherwood Park, Toronto where I go to do hill and stair repeats several times a week, instead of going to the gym. There's nothing like fresh fall air and falling leaves to jump start the day. The plethora of doggy varieties is simply the icing on the cake. I suspect they feel much the way I do about the joys of playing outside, being in the present moment, and finding awe in the surroundings...
not so much.....that last one, but two out of three is acceptable to any canine. Just ask them.

Angels of Autumn

Like the Buddha image, angels evoke for me a spiritual essence of wholeness and connection to a greater field of knowledge and guidance. I am even comforted by the mere hope that one can on occasion tap into this vast dimension of clarity. Have you ever experienced one of those fleeting glimpses of pure knowing? It manifests as a sort of vision or flash where in that moment, there is absolute nirvana. It is combined with the sureness that ALL IS WELL. The message is completely uncluttered by ego, issues and other debris that would normally block such communication.  Many look to the presence of angels to inspire, clarify or simply guide us and our thoughts to be more centred in LOVE.      Namaste dear ones.

Quote of the Day

"Creativity is contagious.  Pass is on."   .....  Albert Einstein

These were the first words I read when I opened up my new issue of Somerset Memories. Thought I would pass it on.

Thank you Chair

It's just after 5 AM, Thanksgiving Monday, 2010. While I would prefer to be nestled in my bed at this hour, especially after the marathon it is to host the Turkey Day feast, it turns out there was a lawn mower in my bed, and a yorkie with a bladder problem.... so here I am in my thank you chair. It appears there might be a sleep buzz coming on, so I'll cut this short and give thanks to Catherine Moore's Character Construction line of rubber stamps. More on the joys of rubber stamping later....

Thanksgiving

Blessings to all in anticipation of an early celebration of Thanksgiving in Canada. I'm the cook who's usually caught by surprise and whipping up a last minute family feast. Since I've been so busy inviting guests over for a traditional turkey meal, I'm blogging about it now 'cause I'll be busy in the kitchen later.

Mon Pere

A pair of pears pour mon père... blessings to all, whether here or the hereafter. Thanksgiving is around the corner here in Canada. May we begin to focus on giving thanks.
